Kemudian Yesus pergi ke kampung Nazaret, tempat Dia dibesarkan. Seperti kebiasaan-Nya, Dia pergi ke rumah pertemuan pada hari Sabat. Lalu Dia diberi kesempatan berdiri di hadapan jemaat untuk membacakan Firman Allah. Gulungan kitab yang diberikan kepada-Nya berisi tulisan Nabi Yesaya. Kemudian Yesus membuka gulungan kitab itu dan membacakan bagian ini, “Roh TUHAN ada pada-Ku, sebab Dia sudah mengurapi Aku untuk memberitakan kabar baik kepada orang-orang miskin. Kepada orang yang hilang pengharapan, Aku diutus untuk memulihkan hati mereka. Kepada para tawanan, Aku diutus untuk memberitakan, ‘Kamu dibebaskan!’ Kepada orang-orang buta, Aku diutus untuk membuat mereka melihat kembali, dan kepada orang-orang yang tertindas, Aku diutus untuk membebaskan mereka. TUHAN juga mengutus Aku untuk memberitakan: ‘Sekaranglah waktu yang dijanjikan Allah untuk menunjukkan kebaikan hati-Nya kepada kita!’”
