Sesudah malaikat-malaikat itu meninggalkan mereka dan kembali ke surga, para gembala berkata satu sama lain, “Ayo, kita pergi ke Betlehem sekarang juga! Kita lihat apa yang sudah terjadi, yang baru saja diberitahukan TUHAN kepada kita.” Mereka pun segera pergi ke sana lalu bertemu dengan Maria dan Yusuf. Mereka juga melihat Anak itu terbaring di dalam kotak kayu. Ketika para gembala mengunjungi Bayi itu, mereka memberitakan kepada penduduk Betlehem semua yang sudah diberitahukan malaikat tentang Anak itu. Semua orang yang mendengar cerita mereka terheran-heran.
