Psalms 90
90
psalm XC
Tuin: St Anne
1O Lord, oor hame in Thee alane
Frae auld langsyne has been,
Afore the too’rin’ hills were born,
And heichts o’ land were seen.
2Or Thou the yirth and a’ the warl’
Had shapen to Thy plan,
E’en God Thou art till time be dune,
As frae when time began.
3Man to the yirth Thou airts alang,
Till nocht o’ him remain;
And says to ilka son o’ man,
“Come hame to Me again.”
4A thousand years appear to be
Nae mair afore Thy sicht,
Than gliff o’ yesterday that’s gane,
Or than a blink o’ nicht.
5As spates afore them a’thing tak’,
Sae Thou bears them awa!
A dwaum o’ sleep; a blade o’ gress:
Nae ither are they a’.
6It bree’rs and grows when mornin’ daws
At e’en mawn doon and dwin’d;
Sae by Thine angir we’re consumed,
Its dreid owrecomes the mind.
7Oor fauts afore Thee Thou has set
Whaur Thou can plainly see;
And a’ oor sae weel‐happit sins
Afore Thy glintin’ e’e.
8For in Thine angir ilka day
O’ oors drees dreich alang;
And a’ oor years they wear awa
Like soughs o’ silenced sang.
9The days and years that mak’ oor life
Are three‐score years and ten,
Or fourscore, gin oor strength be mair
Than fa’s the feck o’ men.
10E’en sae a weary wars’le aye
Oor strength is, a’ the same;
For in a gliff it’s slippit by,
And we maun flichter hame.
11Thine angir’s poo’er, O, wha can tell?
’Tis marrow to Thy fear.
12To coont oor days syne teach us, sae
Oor herts may win sic lear.
13O Lord, hoo lang or Thou come back
To them that miss Thee sair?
O, haud Thy hand frae Thine ain folk,
And, in Thy peety, spare.
14Fu’ sune wi’ rowth o’ mercy sweet,
O, mak’ oor sauls content;
Syne sal we lilt and blythsome be
Till a’ oor days be spent.
15For a’ the weary days, that we
In dool and dolour lay,
And a’ the years, that ill befel,
O’ mak’ us gled, we pray.
16Lat a’ Thy folk that thirldom ken
But live Thy wark to see,
And to their bairns a gudely sicht
O’ Thine ain glory gie.
17Syne let the glamour o’ the Lord,
Oor God, upon us fa’;
And siccar mak’ oor warks o’ hand,
Ay, siccar mak’ tham a’.
