The Lord's Prayer (It's Yours) - 4 Day Devotional With Matt MaherՕրինակ
Day 4 – Strength from the Lord
As we enter our last day of studying The Lord’s Prayer, we pray that your daily prayers have brought you closer to the Heart of God. He loves you and delights in hearing from you! The last part of Jesus’s guide for prayer discusses temptation. Temptation is a difficult topic. In a broken world, we find ourselves tempted in hundreds of ways each day. Love of money, hunger for power, and lust are always waiting to distract from the goodness that God has to offer.
Which is why in the final part of The Lord’s Prayer, Jesus urges us to pray against such things, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil one” (Matthew 6:9-13).
Jesus reveals to us that temptation isn’t something that we can passively avoid. We have to be consistently praying for the Lord to guide and protect us from it. While God doesn’t lead us into temptation, He does allow trials to come our way, yet we can pray for deliverance and strength in the midst of those!
We have a very real Enemy, the father of lies, who will constantly try to turn our eyes from the path of the Lord. But we have the power to pray against this! We have a Father who loves to rescue us and deliver us. He may not immediately take us out of a trial, but He will indeed protect us and help us through it.
At the heart of it, The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 is here to call us deeper. Deeper into His holiness. Deeper into His kingdom. Deeper into His daily provision. Deeper into His forgiving arms. And deeper into His protection.
He’s inviting you to come along. Will you take His hand?
Reflect:
Listen to “The Lord’s Prayer (It’s Yours)” by Matt Maher and take a moment to reflect.
- Do you pray against temptation? If not, why?
- How has the Lord been calling you into deeper prayer with Him over the last few days?
Challenge:
Tomorrow, in lieu of reading a devotional, take a moment to go through The Lord’s Prayer again. Pray through each line and spend time submitting to what the Lord may have for you! He cannot wait to hear from you.
