Hearts Seeking the Lord
The people had been so disconnected from the Law of Moses that they’d forgotten even to celebrate the festivals. Many people didn’t even understand how to celebrate. They did not know that they needed to consecrate themselves. The message of Grace, Forgiveness, and Compassion is often thought to be something that Christianity added to Judaism, but that is so far from the truth. These values were only lost by Judaism as they turned to legalism, perhaps in an over-correction from their past errors.
Imagine the response of a Pharisee in this crowd! All these unclean people ruining the festival. But God’s response is full of grace, forgiveness and compassion. These people’s hearts were earnestly seeking the Lord, and that is His greatest desire- that was all He had truly asked this whole time.
The longer we’re in the church, the more critical we can get when services, events or teaching don’t go the way we expect. We can get hard hearts because we believe we know how things ought to operate. May we all have soft hearts that are set on seeking the Lord.
Thought Point
Do you care more about how things are done in the church or whether people are seeking the Lord?
Prayer Point
Ask God to give you a soft heart that seeks after Him.
