False Confidence

How have you reached your position and place in life? Many of us have had to work hard to get to where we are, to earn a living, to care for our families. In the face of success, it’s easy to feel like we can do anything.

Amaziah started well. He had a great victory in Edom. I’m sure he worked hard to make sure that he won. He probably spent time strategizing, training and building up his army. He made a good choice listening to the word of the Lord and because of this experienced great success. Amaziah must have thought, if that was what he could achieve with one god on his side, imagine if he had the gods of Edom on his side too?! Unfortunately, Amaziah’s success had much less to do with himself than he thought.

God is on our side. If He is for us, no one can stand against us. Amaziah thought this meant that God was just another consultant on his team but this is not what it means to have God on our side. Having God on our side does not mean He aligns Himself to all of our desires, it means aligning all of our selves with His desires.
