Year of the Bible: Part Two of Twelve

JOU 3 SOU 30

Escaping a Famine.

Today's passage tells us about Abram and Sarai heading to Egypt because of a Famine. Suffice it to say, and things didn't go well. Abram was afraid of the Egyptians, and he thought they might kill him to take his wife, Sarai, for themselves. His response to the situation he faced was selfish. Pharaoh took Sarai from Abram anyway, and then God struck the palace with severe disease.

Dishonesty leads to confusion every time and can result in mistreatment of others or worse. When have you done things motivated by fear that led to others getting hurt? It's a step toward maturity to identify what emotion motivates a decision you're about to make. Is the motivating emotion one of fear or trust?

Question: In this instance, who do you think trusted God more, Abram or Pharaoh? What things in your life are you tempted to be dishonest about because you are afraid?

Prayer Focus: Ask God to help you trust Him and be honest, even when you are scared or don't know what will happen.
