DAY 6: REVIVE OUR CHURCHES
THE CHURCH - full of resilience, full of power and full of potential. When the early church was established, it was amidst the persecution of Christians and challenging societal circumstances. 2000 years later, the church is still the fastest growing and largest movement on the planet.
In every generation the enemy attempts to quash the very thing that God has established through the church. While we know we are victorious through Jesus, the enemy will try and use comparison, conflict, disunity and fear to try and destroy the people of God.
So today, what is the challenge that the church is facing? Well, let’s understand what is going on around us: global pandemics, political unrest, national tensions, worldwide poverty, injustice, untrustworthy systems and broken homes. When we look around, it can almost seem like all hope is lost. Where do we start? What do we fix? How do we help?
The truth is that none of these things can destroy the church. The church has survived through every health pandemic in history. It has survived through every political and religious war that has ever existed and it will continue to survive through these times. So what seems to be the issue is not the issue. It’s our RESPONSE to the issue that is the challenge.
So what is the challenge that we are facing? APATHY. Apathy means a lack of interest, a lack of concern, and a lack of passion. The most dangerous thing we are facing as a church is an apathetic generation, so overwhelmed that they don’t know how to feel, so distracted that they can’t engage, so anxious that they can’t empathise, and so disinterested they can’t get in the house.
Competing for the attention of the human heart is nothing new to the church. However, the answer is not to make church a convenience. The answer can only be to make church a conviction.
We need to wage war against lazy, passionless, and disengaged faith. Apathy is a silent killer. Without us knowing, it will slowly creep in and try to kill the body of Christ. We need to raise believers that deeply hunger for the presence of God, people who passionately serve Christ with everything they have, leaders who are unashamed to walk in the miraculous power of God, and a community that is committed to making disciples, whatever the cost.
God is reviving the church. He is stirring the hearts of His people and reawakening a fire that will not stop burning. It’s time for the church to rise in passion, in purpose, and in power.
QUESTIONS:
1. Has there been a time where I have allowed my faith to become apathetic?
2. What are some of the things I need to do in my life to not allow apathy to creep in?
3. What are some practical steps I can take to increase your passion for the local church?
