Love God Greatly: Jesus Our Everything

JOU 20 SOU 30

In Hebrews chapter 10, the author presented another way Christ is superior. He had explained Christ’s superiority to angels, the priesthood, the old covenant, and the sanctuary. Now he explained how Christ is superior to the law.

The law allowed for temporary cleansing from the sacrifices that were made each year. However, the law was flawed. There was no sacrifice in the law that could permanently cleanse people from their sin, until Jesus. There was no seating in the tabernacle or temple, showing how the work of the priest was never finished and therefore, they could never sit down. However, after Jesus sacrificed Himself on behalf of humanity, He sat down at the right hand of God because His work was finished.

God has written His law on our hearts in our consciences. The law makes us aware of our sin. Apart from Christ, we will never experience peace in our conscience. When we accept the grace of Christ, accept His sacrifice as enough to cover the payment for our sin, we experience peace. We can truly experience rest when we accept His gracious gift of righteousness.

Jesus, I accept the grace You have given me. I believe Your sacrifice covered my sins. Help me live like I believe this. Help me stop striving for approval from You and from others. Help me believe Your grace abounds and is enough for me. Amen.
