JOU 7 SOU 21

Abiding In Christ

In nature, the branch doesn’t bear fruit by exerting its will to bear fruit. The branch bears fruit, naturally, as it remains in the vine. Notice that Jesus never commands us here to bear fruit. What he commands us to do is to remain in him, abide in him.

It’s through abiding in Christ, spending time at his feet, feasting on his word, soaking in his Spirit, that we become fruitful.

As the branch remains connected to the vine, every resource of the vine is transferred to the branch. The vine holds nothing back. Everything the vine has the branches also have. As we remain in Christ, abiding in him, everything we need for life, growth, health, and fruitfulness is made available to us. God never shortchanges his people. All that you need is at your disposal through Christ!

Today, recommit yourself to remaining in Christ through prayer, reading his word, and thinking about him throughout the day. Ask God to help you understand and appreciate the resources that are at your disposal as you remain in him.

PRAYER

Jesus, I thank you that you are the vine and you have invited me to be a branch that is anchored to and sustained by your life-giving Spirit. Help me to more connected to you, abiding in you and keeping you at the very center of who I am.
