Jesus Loves Me: Experiencing God’s Heart for Kids Primjer
Celebrate a Child’s Unique Qualities
Have you noticed that we are often poor judges of character? We value privilege, esteem, and success. We compare our lives with others, but that’s not how God works. We judge by sight, but God sees the heart.
In a culture where we brag about our merit, Jesus flips that upside-down. He values humility and he uses little children to illustrate His point. People were bringing little children to Him for prayer and the disciples rebuked them. Perhaps they felt Jesus had better things to do or could meet with people who were more important. Instead, Jesus called for the children to come and He blessed them.
God seems to honor certain qualities that are evident in little children. Children are the most open to God and His salvation. They are teachable and humble, ready to open God’s gift of salvation.
Jesus provides a firm warning to us. “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them.” How often do we dismiss a child instead of pulling him into our lap and sharing God’s love? Children around the world are dismissed, sold into slavery, left hungry, and homeless. Jesus calls us to take these children, to love them, value them, celebrate their unique qualities, and share His salvation with them.

Jesus loves children! In the Bible, Jesus took kids in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. We should follow his example by showing the children in our lives how valuable they are in God’s eyes. Join us on this nine-day journey to see how God views children with eyes of compassion.
