Week 1 Christmas Challenge, Space for Awe.Primjer
Yes, we read the same text yesterday. There’s a lot in there! Today we are going to zero in on Zechariah’s practice and posture.
His practice? Well, here’s Luke 1:8 (TPT) – “One day, Zechariah’s priestly order was on duty and he was serving as priest.” You know the phrase, ‘I was going about my business’, or, ‘I was just minding my own business’. This is like that. Except, Zechariah’s just going about the Lord’s business. He’s just minding the Lord’s business.
Zechariah is a bit like Forrest Gump in the start of this scene, merely filling his role, unaware of some larger picture, or some larger stakes. That’s his practice.
And his posture? Here is the second part of 1:9 (TPT) – “the honor fell upon Zechariah to enter the Holy Place and burn incense before the Lord.” And so he went into the Holy Place to worship. He was intentional, submissive, and obedient.
In our preparation for this supernatural advent, we can follow Zechariah’s model here, as well. We can refresh our habits and practices such that we are ‘about our Lord’s business’, just minding His business’, so that we can posture ourselves intentionally and obediently to find ourselves in the holy place, to worship.
Again, this is new covenant, so there isn’t merely one ‘holy place’. There is now sacred space all over the place! If we were super-spiritually-sensitive, we could go barefoot all the time, because God, being everywhere, makes everywhere He is ‘holy ground’. Where He is, it is holy. We can find and worship God anywhere. Everywhere. And let’s be intentional and obedient as we do it.
Let’s pray that into being in this introductory week:
Lord, we want to be ever about Your business, always minding Your business. Sorry for the times we’ve been more about our own business. Help us, please, to intentionally discover ourselves in sacred space to worship You. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
