Real Hope: The Voice of GodPrimjer
Where Is God in the Chaos
Could you imagine being Elijah in this passage? He was told the Lord would pass by, and then was surrounded by destructive winds, an earthquake and fire. Trying to find calm and safety, I picture him crouched on ground, searching for shelter and covering his head as he asked, "Is this you God?"
Eventually, came the whisper and finally a, "Yes."
Who knows how long Elijah was being battered before God’s voice came. Or whether or not he thought he’d been hearing it all along through the magnificent overwhelm of forces he couldn’t contain. What we do know is, the whisper was God.
When your own life feels encompassed by destruction and turmoil, listen for the whisper. Seek out quiet to gain clarity. Don’t wait for the chaos to stop.
Thanks to Moses and the burning bush in Exodus 3:2, we know that whisper can be heard from within the fire. The natural event got Moses’s attention, but it was the voice of God that gave Him direction through it.
Have you had enough quiet time today?
