Dan 2 od 4

Bring Back Life to the Workplace

When I first became a believer, I connected with a local church in a deprived housing estate. It was a new church, largely composed of young adults recently set free from addiction. Although the church was marked by passionate spirituality, it viewed those engaged in employment rather suspiciously. Work seemed like a distraction from destiny rather than a doorway into it. We had changed the divine story to fit our reality rather than changing our reality to fit the story.

The story is that work originated in the heart of God. It was His idea, His initiative.

God breathes life into humanity (literally inspires them) and then instructs them to bring life to their environment. We don’t just go to work. We are sent to work. Work is where humanity learns to breathe out what God has breathed into us. We learn in the work environment what it means to become fully human, to flourish, to connect with the story of God.

Our work was intended to be a place of discovery and creativity, not only productivity. As someone once said, we don’t just work to earn; we work to learn. Fundamentally, we work to create, explore, and innovate. And as Adam cultivated and shaped the garden around him, God shaped something within Adam. But He also shaped something with him. Like Adam, you are working for God—more than that, you are working with God. He invites us to take our place beside Him, to work with Him for the transformation of the workplace.

It’s time to integrate what has been separated: Your vocation and your vision. Your spiritual journey and your job. Your job and your joy. Your industry and your ministry. Your connection with God and your connection with the world.

Regardless of where you work and what you do, your job is your kingdom assignment. You are not employed, you are assigned. An assignment is a specific calling to effect change in an environment. Therefore, as kingdom believers, we are not called to survive the workplace, but to seek its transformation. You can accomplish this by recognizing that God’s Spirit is upon you at work, just as everywhere else.

Scattered Servants

Scattered servants release the kingdom everywhere, every day. It’s what we were made for. We were made to step into the story, breaking out beyond our services, study groups, and strategy meetings. We were made for a story bigger than our local church, greater than culture. In this reading plan, you'll be challenged to step into God's story in your work and your life, no matter where you are.
