Combating Anxiety With God's WordPrimjer
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I forget God is God. When circumstances overwhelm me, when anxiety creeps up in my soul, and when things look bleak, I tend to give control to everything but God. We all go through seasons that are less than ideal, but even those situations are seasons of mercy and grace, because God is God, and because He is God, He is good.
What do we do when things seem to be bleak? We follow the instructions written by the prophet Isaiah because Scripture, in its sufficiency, is just as relevant for us as it was to the Israelites who were the subject of these words.
Firstly, we remember. We take time to remember who God is. We look at times in our lives when He has delivered us, blessed us, and sustained us. We tend to only look at the present situation in front of us, and we tend to forget how mighty God is. There are countless examples in Scripture of God and His faithfulness. We can study the attributes of God and remember that same God is for us and not against us (Romans 8:31), and He works all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
We also respect and trust in God’s sovereignty. We were created for God and God’s glory. We are only mere, tiny players in the overall scheme of God’s story. Our lives aren’t about us, but they are about our good God, and we can trust in His plan and His will. He is the Alpha and the Omega, and we are children in His hands. We can rest in the fact that God has us. That is a beautiful, blessed assurance.
