Gifts From the Spirit: Love
Have you looked lately at how many dating websites there are? Here men seek women, women seek men, and many other kinds of lonely people look for love. Surprised at the huge number of sites? Don’t be. God made us to be love sponges. All of us crave acceptance and community, affection and admiration.
We need all these things from God too. And he does not disappoint. St. John wrote, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10). True love goes first and initiates the relationship. Thanks to Jesus, you can absolutely count on God’s unconditional acceptance and love. Thanks to Jesus, you can know with certainty that you are precious to God, that you have great worth, that you are somebody.
One of the many ways that God shows his love to you is to put people in your life who show love to you. Can you tell who they are? And guess what? You just might be God’s agent to show love to them. Isn’t it a privilege to be God’s arms and smile to somebody else? Do you need some kindness and affection right now? Which weary sinner needs a hug from you?
