Learn to Discern

DAY 2 OF 7

I’ve been a Christian all my life, and one of my greatest childhood fears was missing out on God’s will for my life. I grew up hearing that God has a unique plan and a calling for everyone, and somehow, that caused me to stress about discovering His plan for me and making sure I was walking in it.

I often prayed in frustration, “God, why do you make it so hard to know Your will?? Why don’t you just tell me plainly so I don’t mess up?”

With time and experience, I’ve learned an invaluable truth: it’s not just about the destination— there are important lessons to be learned on the journey. So embrace it.

If and when God wants to give you specific instructions and a fully detailed plan for your life’s calling, He will make it unmistakably clear.

He told Moses through a burning bush that he would deliver Israel (Exodus 3), Mary received an angelic visitation announcing her becoming the mother of Jesus (Luke 1:26-38) and Jonah was called to go to Nineveh and, when he refused, was transported inside a fish to get there (Jonah 1).😳

However, these examples are exceptions to the rule that God usually chooses to reveal His plans one step at a time. He takes us on a journey, often with many detours, filled with lessons, growth, and preparation:

When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” – Exodus 13:17-18

Another great example is the story of Joseph. God used his journey from being a slave to becoming a ruler to prepare him:

Until the time came to fulfil his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character. – Psalms 105:19

Let’s pray together:

“Heavenly Father, I want to follow Your will above all else. Today, I accept Your invitation to journey with You, trusting that You will reveal Your plan each step of the way. In Jesus’ name. Amen."

Hey! You are a Chamatkar
