Deep Community: Loving & Thriving in Your Local Church

DAY 3 OF 15

A Different Type Of Community

As we have explored these last two days, God’s definition of Love far exceeds anything we could come up with. It is sacrificial, self-giving, action-driven love that comes from God alone. And because God so loved us, we are called to love one another in the same way. It’s a love that doesn’t just make a community “nice” or “friendly”... It makes it different.

And here’s the beautiful part: the church is meant to be a glimpse of heaven on earth, a community reflecting God’s perfect love. Heaven is a place where creation meets with God and with one another in perfect unity. It’s meant to be a community of deep connection, selfless care, and mutual encouragement.

This vision challenges us, though. Scripture tells us plainly: if we’re not loving, we don’t truly know God. That’s a hard truth to face. But the answer isn’t to strive harder in our own strength. It’s to draw closer to Jesus, experiencing His love so we might be able to love others in the same way.

When we love like Jesus, we create a community that stands out in a world desperate for something real. Think about the early church described in Acts 2:42-47. They were devoted to God’s Word, fellowship, prayer, and sharing life together. They met in homes, shared meals, and made sure no one was in need. That wasn’t just because they followed a program or checklist. It was because their actions flowed from genuine love for God and for each other. Their love for one another was so radical and selfless that it created a picture of heaven on earth.

Here's the thing: the church isn’t just another community on your list. It’s not a hobby group or a social club. The local church is God’s community. It’s a community designed and empowered by Him to reflect His love to the world. When you step into your church, you’re stepping into a purpose bigger than yourself. You’re part of God’s story — a story of love, redemption, and restoration.

We are blessed to experience deep community in many areas of life, but the church is unique. It’s where God places us to grow, serve, and be part of His mission. It’s a community where love isn’t optional but essential, where every member plays a part in the larger body of Christ.

So, if you long for deep community, start with love.

Reflect

  • How can I love others more like Jesus; selflessly, sacrificially, and sincerely?
  • What is my perspective on Church Community? How do I approach being a part of the Church?
