What Do Christians Believe?

DAY 18 OF 19

We look for the Resurrection of the dead

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who will transform our lowly body to be like His glorious body.” (Philippians 3:20-21)

The Christian faith is not just about the here and now. Life after death is at least as important.

Death evokes fear. Death is an enemy. But the Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ conquered this enemy. Therefore He can comfort us, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die” (John 11:25-26).

When believers die, only their body dies. Their soul is not buried but goes to God. But on the day when God renews this world, their bodies will also be raised again. It will not be exactly the same as it was before, but more beautiful, stronger and better. Our renewed body will no longer suffer from sickness or defects. This is how it was with Jesus Himself. He was killed and buried, but after three days He rose again with a glorified body. He was the first to overcome death, and we get to share in His victory.

Do you consider death an enemy? Why do you perceive it that way?

About this Plan

What Do Christians Believe?

In 2025, the worldwide church celebrates the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, an assembly representing all of Christendom. At this council, people tried to state and affirm the Christian faith in the triune God. This reading plan studies the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed to see what Christians throughout history have confirmed to be the core of their faith.
