Five Times God Says 'Do One Thing' in the Bible

DAY 2 OF 5

Salaam!

Today, Jesus wants to tell you, “I don’t need your money!” But what does He want?

In Mark 10, a rich man comes up to Jesus and asks Him what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus gives him a list:

You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honour your father and mother” (verse 19).

The man proudly replies, “I do all those things,” then Jesus tells him, “Ek kaam kar.

“Jesus looked at him and loved him. ‘Do one thing’, He said. Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me’” (verse 21).

Can you imagine someone telling you “ek kaam kar” followed by “sell everything you have”?

That is a monumental ‘kaam’! However, Jesus wasn’t trying to complicate this man’s life, nor was God opposed to wealth.

It says, "Jesus looked at him and loved him." Jesus was not concerned with this man’s riches but with his heart! Jesus gave him this assignment because He knew the rich man’s wealth was a barrier to following Him wholeheartedly.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”. – Jeremiah 29:13

Are there things in your heart holding you back from following Jesus wholeheartedly? Let’s ask Jesus the same question as the rich man did. We’ll do it together; pray this with me:

"Lord Jesus, I want to follow you wholeheartedly. Please show me what is holding me back. Whether it is ‘ek kaam’ or ‘many kaam,’ I will do anything for You! Amen"

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
