THE MAKING OF A PIONEER: DISCOMFORT
PIONEER: one who goes before or prepares the way to follow.
JESUS WAS THE ORIGINAL PIONEER.
In a world that was full of darkness, Jesus brought in a new light. In a world that was without direction, Jesus offered a new way. In a world that was all about rules and religion, Jesus pioneered a new Kingdom with a new mindset for a new day.
Jesus was the one who went before us and prepared a new way for us to follow. He didn't just tell us how to live, but He showed us by becoming a man and modeling this new way to live. 1 Peter 2 tells us that Jesus came as the example for us and, in his suffering, showed us the way in which we should follow. As Christians (followers of Christ), we now carry this same mandate. To go before, to prepare the way for others to follow, and to continue to pioneer the Kingdom of God across the earth.
However, the call to pioneer is not for the faint of heart. Pioneers go where no one has gone, reach places that have not been reached, and do things that have not been done. Pioneers are formed where there are no answers, built in times where there is no hope, and created to find purpose where there isn’t any.
PIONEERING is a direct response to discomfort. Anything that has ever been invented came as a solution to a problem. We have seats because people got uncomfortable with standing. We have beds because people got uncomfortable with the floor. We have air-conditioning because people got uncomfortable with sweating. Anything new emerges as a response to discomfort.
This is also true in the context of faith. Whether it was Moses, who led his people to freedom from the discomfort of slavery. Or Joshua, who led the people into the promised land from the discomfort of the wilderness. Whether it was Joseph who led his kingdom out of the discomfort of a famine. Or Queen Esther, who led Israel out of the discomfort of oppression from the Persians. Every pioneer is made through the pains of discomfort.
My heart for you today is that God would give you a divine discomfort. A discomfort with the mundane, ordinary, and average life we so often choose. A discomfort with the multitudes of people that don’t know Jesus yet. A discomfort with the powerless faith that so many believers accept. Today you need to know that God has called you to pioneer. To live a life beyond yourself. To take ground for the Kingdom. To make an impact far greater than you ever thought or imagined. You are called to PIONEER.
QUESTIONS:
1. What are 2 problems you see that give you a divine discomfort?
2. How is God calling you to pioneer something to help solve those problems?
