Firm Foundation: Building Your Life on the Unshakable Truth of God's Wordનમૂનો
Week 2 / What is Sin? Who is Jesus?
Sin: What is sin?
Read: Romans 6:21-23
SOAP: Romans 6:23
“For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Into the Text
Have you ever wondered about the true cost of sin? Romans 6:23 reminds us that sin results in death and separation from God. We see this first in Genesis 3 as Adam and Eve’s sin resulted in being sent out of the Garden of Eden with the knowledge that they would one day die.
Sin is more than just a list of wrongdoings. It is anything we think, say, or do that is in rebellion against God's holy law. Every time we lie, steal, or act with selfish motives, or lust, we are breaking God's commandments. It is not that we merely choose to sin, but we are sinful creatures and are incapable of doing good. We need to be rescued.
Thankfully, God, in His mercy, provides a way for us to be reconciled to Him. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to bear our sins and pay the just penalty on the cross. For those who believe in Him, Jesus has given us His righteousness, taking away our sins and offering us eternal life. It is a free gift of grace.
Every sin is ultimately against God, and it leaves behind a trail of destruction and sorrow. When we recognize His holiness, we see our sin for what it truly is.
As Christians, we have been rescued from the grip of sin, though its presence is still felt in our lives. As we grieve our sins and actively combat them, we must remember to draw on the strength of the Holy Spirit. One day, when Jesus returns, there will be no more sin, suffering, or death. He will destroy sin, and we will dwell eternally in perfect unity with God.
Remember, Jesus paid the penalty for your sins. Through Him, you have victory over sin. Embrace this truth and let it help you to resist temptation and live in obedience to God.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you for revealing the truth about sin and providing a way for me to be forgiven through you. Help me to see my sin for what it is and to turn to you in repentance. Strengthen me by your Spirit to resist temptation and to live in a way that honors you. In your name, Amen.
