Life on Fire

DAY 6 OF 7

The stand-off between Elijah and Jezebel continued past the drought and his confrontation with the prophets of Baal (see 1 Kings 18:19–29). It was finally brought to an end when Elisha (Elijah's disciple and successor) anointed Jehu, who finally defeated Jezebel with the help of her own eunuchs!

Jehu was called out of his company of men, away from his peers and what he was familiar with; he was taken into the inner room and there he was anointed with oil as the King of Israel. Sometimes for God to tell you what His plans are for you, and what He has anointed you for, He needs to separate you from what you are comfortable and familiar with.

'Many individuals want to be used by God but are too concerned about fitting into the crowd' - James Aladiran.

God uses people who are willing to be different and swim against the current of culture. But these types of people are not made overnight, nor are they people who are sustained by their own strength. These types of people are forged and sustained in the secret place of the Most High God.

Jehu was separated from his companions and taken into the inner room, which is a representation of the secret place of prayer, and there he was anointed. It is in the secret place that we receive the anointing, empowerment, and encounters that we need to do the work that God has set for us.

Psalm 91 calls it the secret place of the Most High. So contrary to the way many of us approach the secret place, this is not our secret place but His!

This is why it is sometimes so hard to access because there are dimensions of God that He reserves only for those who are serious about Him, true worshippers who seek Him wholeheartedly and worship Him in spirit and truth.

But the secret place is also our prayer 'closets', it is a place, not always physical, that we frequent to meet with the Lord. It is a place that each man and woman must build for themselves through repetitive dwelling. When our secret place is deep we will inevitably meet with His secret place.

Only when the pull of the secret place is greater than the pull of the earthly realm, will we find the freedom to be all that God has called us to be.

A prayer that we regularly pray at Prayer Storm is 'Lord, I need you to need you'. We are praying that His spirit would stir up in us a great hunger for His presence, a desire for Him above all else, so that forsaking all else we would pursue Him in the secret place.

Why not make that prayer your own as you learn to deepen your secret place?
