Parable of the New Cloth and New Wine
In the New Testament, Jesus shares a parable about new cloth and new wine, found in the gospels of Matthew (9:16-17), Mark (2:21-22), and Luke (5:36-38). In this parable, Jesus uses metaphors to convey deeper spiritual truths. He compares new cloth patches and new wine to the message and kingdom he brings.
Jesus begins by stating that no one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, as it will only result in the patch shrinking and tearing away from the garment, making the tear worse. Similarly, new wine must be put into new wineskins, as old wineskins would burst from fermentation, resulting in the loss of both wine and skins.
