Samuel was a judge and a prophet in Israel. After over 200 years without a ruler, the Israelites wanted a king. They asked God to send them a king, and God put Samuel in charge of finding one. God told Samuel to pick a man named Saul to be king. Later on, Samuel picked the next king of Israel when he chose a boy named David to be the king after Saul.
