Look Up, Girl!

DAY 4 OF 10

I Can't Believe I Lost My I.D.!

How many of us compare ourselves to that gorgeous, successful, overachieving, friended-amillion times woman who knows exactly who she is and where she’s going? You know that TikTok makeup expert, Instagram influencer, Facebook fashionista, YouTube healthy hard body, master chef, home improvement aficionada—the list goes on.

I’ll answer that for you: all of us! We can’t help it. It’s impossible not to.

So we keep doing what we do: work (much too hard), kids (a constant demand), date night (occasionally), diet (all the time), cook (begrudgingly), and maybe go out with a friend for a caffeinated gripe session about all of the above. But what happens when we lose our job, experience a breakup, kids stop talking to us, and our favorite outfit becomes the same faded sweats we’ve been wearing for the last month? Suddenly, we look in the mirror and ask, “Do I know you? You don’t look familiar at all!

Without realizing it, our identity has slipped away from us, probably in search of more exciting company. While we were busy watching everyone else excel in their own personal dreams and achievements, we forgot to nurture our own. So many visions we once had can still be accomplished if we would stay present in reality and not lose our focus, aspiring to be someone else.

Today, instead of admiring the woman on the screen, embrace the life God designed especially for you. Be the woman you were always meant to be—incomparable, exceptional, and with your own personal I.D.!

Question

What is it about yourself that you would change? Why?

Prayer

Lord, when You were making me, You had a very special woman in mind. Then You poured my essence into Your mold and carefully crafted the person I am. There were no mistakes as You formed my face, my body, my abilities, my dreams. Please give me the confidence to accept who and what I am—a woman with her own unique identity. Amen.

About this Plan

Look Up, Girl!

Fear, worry, and the weight of everyday stress causes discouragement for many women. In this devotional Kimberly Shumate reminds women of their Heavenly orientation, the Truth of Scripture, and why it matters to our everyday life. These devotions uplift with prayers and reflection questions, too.
