A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday Devotionals

DAY 39 OF 75

'We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.' (Psalm 78:4 NIV)

Does your family have little sayings that are so commonplace, you didn’t realise that everyone doesn’t say them? Maybe you have a peculiar habit with shoes or washing or forks that make no sense outside of your family unit but have been passed down from generations by habit or use.

To become ‘habituated’ to something means to become less responsive over repeated exposure, less aware, and less moved. In this week’s scripture, we have been exploring what it means to forget what God has done and stop being so thankful for the wonders of God’s hands.

What stops us from remembering, do you think? If somewhere is said to be inhabited, it is loved, lived in, used, and treasured. The scripture in Psalm 22:3 tells us that ‘God inhabits the praises of God’s people’. We are called to remember and inhabit the stories and wonders we pass down from generation to generation, both the ones we hear and the ones we live. We are to continue to be responsive, alive, provoked and moved by these genealogies of grace that God gives us. as we call them to mind, God is honoured and seen, celebrated and walks amidst us.

Prayer: Jesus, I thank you for living in me. Thank you for the wonders and works of your hands. Creator God, I call to mind your greatness and thank you.

Action: Can you commit to a daily thanksgiving in this coming eeek?
