Forgiven
In this episode, Matthew has a difficult but honest conversation with his parents. He recognizes the pain he caused them and the wider community through the choices he made. By becoming a tax collector, he chose financial security and an easier life, but at the cost of betraying his people. His decision brought dishonor to his family.
In that conversation, Matthew finally apologizes and asks for forgiveness. It becomes such a freeing moment for him. His repentance opens the door to healing, and his relationship with his parents is restored.
Scripture consistently shows that forgiveness always brings freedom. It creates space for healing in you, and sometimes in the other person as well.
Matthew heard Jesus’ words and understood that forgiveness is not optional for those who follow Him. It is part of the new life Jesus offers.
How does that land with you? Is there someone you still need to forgive?
Is there a situation in which you need to ask for forgiveness? Do you experience that freedom, or does something still weigh on your heart?
One of the most striking aspects of Matthew’s conversation is the way he names his wrongdoing specifically. Asking for forgiveness does not mean brushing lightly over the past. It involves acknowledging your mistakes and taking responsibility for your actions.
That kind of honesty is difficult and often uncomfortable, but it is also the doorway to freedom. When you bring your failures into the light and seek forgiveness, you release the burden you have been carrying. The consequences of actions may remain, but the shame does not have to.
Forgiveness leads to freedom. The invitation Jesus gives in Matthew 6 is not merely a command but a path toward healing—for you and for others.
