Walking With Jesus

DAY 5 OF 7

Who is your walking partner?

A casual stroll. A leisurely walk. A sweaty sprint. Around our home, our neighbourhood park or the local shopping centre, walking is a part of our lives. Life would be pretty boring if God had created us to live our earthly existence in one spot like some kind of stationary blob. He could have, but He didn’t. We are designed to move. To journey through life, figuratively and physically.

The term ‘walking with Jesus’ in Christendom is an oldie but a goodie. It goes without saying that we want to walk with Jesus, but what does that actually mean?

I find that if I am walking with someone, I might sometimes walk out in front, leading the way, or be behind them if they are leading me. It could be more of a relaxed stroll side by side having a chat, a well-paced walk for exercise, or a real walk of urgency for whatever reason. So, which of these natural scenarios correlate to the spiritual concept of ‘walking with Jesus,’ you may ask? Well, I am glad you asked. I think all of them, along with the countless other circumstances life throws at us.

Jesus, who became flesh, is fully equipped to walk with us as an all-knowing God but also as a human just like us. He truly understands what we are going through. He may let us lead encouraging us from behind or be out front leading and protecting us. Other times right next to us as we talk to each other (that’s called prayer). He is all-knowing. He is always guiding our direction and setting our pace through all the ups and downs of life. Who could ask for a better walking partner then that!
