Clarifying Roles & Responsibilities God’s Way

DAY 3 OF 4

Clarifying Roles & Responsibilities God’s Way: Part III

In this series, we’re discussing roles and responsibilities. After Moses identified those people God called to a specific role, the next step God took was to clearly define their responsibilities.

God charged the Levites with caring for the tabernacle. But to avoid confusion, He clearly defined individual duties for the different tribes of Levites.

God was specific in Numbers 3:36 when He commanded, “Now the appointed duties of the sons of Merari involved the frames of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its equipment, and the service concerning them.”

The Lord did not just list the basic duties of a Levite but narrowed down the particulars of nearly each man’s job. Earlier in the chapter, he lists the names of every Levite man and his father. And identified by their fathers, they were each assigned a specific set of tasks in the care and maintenance of the temple.

Sometimes in business, job descriptions are so loosely defined that it’s hard to determine where one person’s role stops and another person’s role starts. Tasks get overlooked or are completed twice. Do your team a favor and clarify the important responsibilities for each role.

Questions for Reflection

  • What are the tasks your business needs to accomplish each day? Have you ever taken a moment to write them all down? What tasks no longer need to be done? What new tasks should you officially add?
  • What are the responsibilities already associated with each role? What would a given employee's work day look like?

About this Plan

Clarifying Roles & Responsibilities God’s Way

A common challenge for small businesses is clarifying roles and responsibilities for each team member. In this series I want to highlight some principles we can learn from when God established roles and responsibilities for the Israelites after leaving Egypt.
