Psalm 127 Warriors (1)

DAY 2 OF 3

Day 2: Resting in God’s Provision

When we trust God, we can rest in His provision. Trust is very often misunderstood due to our common use of the term. However, trust as translated from the Hebrew word (bāṭaḥ), refers to a sense of confidence, security, and reliance. It implies placing complete confidence in God's wisdom, care, and guidance, and not leaning on one's own understanding, but rather acknowledging God in all one's ways.

Here is a breakdown of each word according to the origin of context:

1. Confidence and Security: "Bāṭaḥ" indicates a deep sense of security and confidence, like trusting a firm foundation.

In the United States, it is common to see security personnel stationed at the entrance or in the vicinity of every government building. This presence reassures each visitor, employee, and official that the environment is safe. This analogy illustrates the significance of a deep sense of security. Even though these establishments may have experienced breaches, the essence of public confidence remains intact.

Understanding this phenomenon from God's perspective, the Most High, invites us to examine whether we possess a deep understanding of how to be secure in Him. Proverbs 18:10 reminds us, "The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." This scripture highlights that our ultimate security is found in God, who is a refuge and stronghold.

Moreover, Psalm 91:1-2 states, "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'" This passage emphasizes that those who trust God find true safety and rest in His protection.

Reflecting on our sense of security in God can reveal areas where we need to grow in trust. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." This encourages us to rely on God's wisdom and guidance, knowing that He will provide and protect us in all circumstances.

2. Reliance: It involves a wholehearted reliance on God, entrusting Him with all aspects of life.

When you encounter difficult seasons of life as a parent, what is your default action? Do you seek the counsel of a wiser person, or do you act first and then ask God to clean up the mess you've made?

Scripture encourages us to turn to God first in all circumstances. In this context, Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." This verse reminds us that when we rely on God, we are entrusting Him with our vulnerabilities and choosing not to depend solely on our own strength. Yes, Proverbs 3:5-6 is repeated to awaken your consciousness to the ideals of TRUST in the Lord with ALL of your heart.

Additionally, James 1:5 reassures us that "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Instead of acting impulsively, we are encouraged to seek God's wisdom, knowing that He is faithful to provide it.

By seeking God first, we acknowledge our need for His guidance and protection, as Psalm 121:1-2 says, "I lift my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." This shift in our response reflects a deeper trust in God's ability to lead us through challenging times, empowering us to parent with grace and wisdom.

3. Surrender: The concept also includes a notion of surrendering one's own understanding and ways, fully depending on God’s guidance.

Do you often find it easier to worry, as if worrying could somehow lead you to the right solution? Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:27, "Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" Worrying doesn’t add value to our lives; instead, it subtracts peace and trust in God's provision.

Surrendering to God means fully depending on Him, regardless of the outcome. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." This passage highlights that surrendering our worries to God leads to a peace that surpasses human understanding.

While we may know this truth in our minds, our hearts can still struggle to fully embrace the reality of surrender. James 1:22 calls us to be "doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." Our beliefs need to align with our actions, reflecting the trust we profess in our hearts.

To live out this surrender, we must actively choose to trust God in every situation, as Proverbs 16:3 advises, "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans." This means that our faith is not just an internal belief but is also demonstrated through actions that align with our trust in God.

Take a moment to reflect on the definitions shared above. Consider whether you have truly trusted in God, or if you have relied on what seems understandable based on your own intellect and knowledge.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,

Help us to trust in You with both our minds and our hearts. May our conscious thoughts and our subconscious mind be aligned with the truth of Your precepts. When we are weak, may Your Holy Spirit guide and strengthen us. Grant us wisdom from above, that we may walk in Your ways with confidence and faith.

Amen.

Meditation:

God is my source. All day long, I place my confidence in God to make my work fruitful. I am God’s beloved -- He gives me rest.
