Bible Survey: Part Twoનમૂનો
If you have been following this plan for awhile, you will recognize this story from 1 Kings 10. Solomon becomes rich and famous, which sounds great, but is actually his downfall! Deuteronomy 17:16 says that Israel’s kings were not supposed to have a lot of horses. We aren’t told why they weren’t supposed to have horses, but probably because the king would be tempted to rely on his military might rather than God.
Great earthly success can lead to either thinking that God is no longer needed or being distracted away from God. When a person has nothing to rely on but God, it is probably is easier to keep priorities in order. In reality, most of us live more comfortably than almost anyone in the time the Bible was written. Pursuing our own comfort and security can easily take our attention off of God. I pray that I will pursue God as if I had nothing else!
