Connect in Community
One thing you can be sure of on this journey of faith is that isolation is one of the greatest tactics the Devil will use to distract and discourage you. Anytime you feel lonely, un-seen, or not accountable, it’s easy to quickly lose sight of the truth. God created us to live in community with other believers. That was always His design for us!
Even from the beginning, God knew Adam could not do life alone. So he created a helper, a woman named Eve. God said it wasn’t good for man to be alone! (Genesis 2:18) He knew we would need helpers on our journey with Him. He knew that we would need others in our lives to represent His love when we felt unlovable and to remind us of our need for Him. He knew we’d need encouragement when we felt like giving up. He knew we would need a Christian community to help move us forward when we felt stuck.
In the very first church in the New Testament book called Acts, the only way the church knew how to live was in community. They didn’t just hang out together though. They purposefully met together with sincere hearts which means there was authenticity and openness. They prayed together, ate together, and learned together. It was a beautiful picture of how God intended the Christian community to be.
As you navigate your new journey of following Jesus, don’t let this part of the process take a back seat. Reach out to a trusted Christian and ask them to meet with you. Join a life group or a serving team at your church so you can begin those relationships. It can feel scary at first, but the more you open yourself up to Godly community, the more He will reveal His truth and His love through those around you. This is the gift of community that God wants you to have!
Reflection
What is your biggest fear when it comes to stepping into a Christian community? Write down a prayer to God asking Him to give you the boldness to see His truth about that fear and then step into the gift of community. Ask Him for direction and guidance to know what that looks like for your life.
