Daily Bible Reading— August 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Faithનમૂનો
August 26
Introduction
2 Samuel 5:1–25: Chapter 16 in 1 Samuel describes young David, a shepherd boy, being anointed by the prophet Samuel to be Israel’s next king. Saul, Israel’s first king, has been rejected by God, and 1 Samuel 31 and 2 Samuel 1 recount Saul’s death. David has been made king of Judah, the southern tribes (2 Samuel 2:1–7). In today’s reading, the leaders of the northern tribes (Israel) accept David as king. David leads a united Israel in capturing Jerusalem from the Jebusites and fighting the Philistines.
Today’s Key Verse: 2 Samuel 5:3
So all the leaders of Israel came to King David at Hebron. He made a sacred alliance with them, they anointed him, and he became king of Israel.
Reflect
What did the northern tribes say to David (verses 1–2)? How did David respond? After capturing the Jebusite fortress, what did David do (verse 9)? What did David name the city? What assistance came from the King of Tyre (verse 11)? In what ways does your community of faith participate in events with other faith communities?
Pray
Lord God Almighty, in you we find our strength. Like a fortress of protection, you surround us in your love. Draw me close to you so that I may abide in the safety of your care. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
2 Samuel 7:1–17: The prophet Nathan delivers a message to David.
