100 Days of Hope

DAY 11 OF 100

Gospel Capital

Hope International knows well the language of loans and repayment. The Apostle Paul does too. He uses it to describe “Gospel capital.” He has received the Gospel from God with explicit instructions to repay it to humanity. Thus he is “obligated” (a financial term) to share it with everyone. Until he does, the Gospel is like an unpaid loan, a liability he lives with uneasily.

How often we question whether now is the time to share our faith, or whether this or that person is someone God is leading us to. No need to question; the answer is yes. This is why Paul was so eager to travel to Rome. That city, too, was a creditor to whom Paul owed truth and grace.

But it wasn’t just the discharging of duty that motivated the apostle. It was the building of the Kingdom economy. The Gospel was not just an unpaid debt; it was an unleashed dynamic. It was and is the power of God bringing salvation to everyone. Just as the free flow of capital builds the financial economy, the free flow of the Gospel builds the Kingdom economy. To whom can you pay the debt and unleash the dynamic today?

Prayer: Father, convict us of the power of the Gospel and compel us to share it. Grant us a willing spirit—your Spirit—to sustain us in the task. And may joy be ours as you build your Kingdom through us!
