A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE
Sometimes it’s just a matter of perspective. We can find ourselves bent out of shape for missing the reality of the situation. And often, a little tweak in how we look at things can diffuse the stress we are feeling. A huge source of anxiety is our propensity to worry about what others think of us. In an effort to please them, we agree to do things we can’t easily deliver on. We want to impress, so we bite off more than we can chew. And rather than advocate for ourselves and set healthy boundaries about what we can and cannot do, we want to be considered agreeable. Our jobs and careers can cause some feather ruffling too. We may not like our boss, or we disagree with their way of managing, so our stress level grows every time we’re tasked with a project. Maybe we think they show favoritism to others and we lose the desire to do our work well. All that frustration transfers to those in authority over us. Even more, managing the home front can cause loads of anxiety as well. Between meal planning and carpools, homework and housework, and everything in between, our insecurities can spill over and we take it out on those we love the most. We can become resentful of our crowded calendars and packed to-do lists, and others pay the price. Joy is replaced by bitterness, and home feels more like a battleground. The Lord knows the stress you’re facing. He understands how overloaded you feel at times. And He sees your frustration levels growing. God, in all His love and concern for you, created a way to manage it all. His idea? Change how you see these situations. Realize that every bit of work you do—be it at home, in relationships, or on the job—is to glorify God. Your best effort is for the Lord. Any inconvenience of time or energy is an act of surrender to Him. You are choosing to love and honor those Jesus deeply cares for. And your obedience serves as His hands and feet to others. Somehow, that tweak in perspective changes everything. It makes the work worth it. It softens your heart to understand your actions are a blessing—an extension of Jesus’ love and care for others. It helps the stress diminish because you’re not trying to impress anyone. It allows you to see anxiety-inducing people and situations as a mission field of sorts. It matters knowing that the Lord sees the sacrifices you’re making and the kindness you’re showing. And, friend, He will bless it.
