Come Up From the Let Down a 5-Day Devotional Plan to Cope With Being Let Down by People by Alicia Renee’ Roberts

DAY 5 OF 5

Future Mindset

Did you know that the mind is one of the enemy’s primary places to attack us? The mind is like a control center for our entire body. If the enemy can control our minds, he can seek to control us everywhere. John 10:10 NIV says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” We must keep our mindset in check to fight off the enemy’s future attacks.

We know that we are subject to encounter let down, abandonment, rejection, and more at some point, but how we live and adjust in those spaces determines how we will thrive and move forward. We need to become diligent at identifying when our circumstances have taken a toll. We must learn how to proactively fuel our mind and spirit with the sustenance needed to combat trouble and pain. We need to build up a safety or disaster kit for emergencies, just like we’d do if we were camping or expecting bad weather.

What should you have in your safety kit? First, a Bible with several scriptures ready to comfort you when you are triggered or need encouragement. Here are a few scriptures to add to your kit:

Psalm 23: 1-6 NIV

Philippians 4:6-8 NIV

Psalm 121: 1 NIV

Next, your kit should come equipped with a fervent prayer life and/or a connection to someone who can get a prayer through on your behalf. Sometimes, we don’t have all the words to say. So, having a trusted prayer warrior in your corner is key. Another asset to have in your kit is a journal. In addition to getting your thoughts out, journaling allows you to reflect on how much you’ve overcome.

Your safety kit should include anything you feel is valuable when you are struggling. Whether it is happy memories or leaving the house, you decide on the best way to protect your mind, heart, and spirit.

Prayer: Ask God to comfort you in your time of need, to step in where others have not stepped up, and to bring you out of any hurt or disappointment that you are currently enduring.

Reflection: Are you in need of a mindset shift? In what ways are you currently allowing negative thoughts to control your mood and limit your outlook on things? What do you need to add to your safety kit?
