Embrace of the Humble: 7 Ways to Grow in Your Servitude

DAY 3 OF 7

What about your home?

Serving doesn't just start at your front door; serving doesn't just start in your home; serving starts WITH your home!

Okay, this is a steep start today, but I am currently very moved by this thought. So often, we think we have to "go to church" to serve or perhaps only serve through some social work we may do.

But serving actually begins when you wake up in the morning, in your home, and with your home.

In Joshua 24:15, we read:

"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15 NIV)

In biblical times, "my house" very likely meant “the family.” That alone is quite important and valuable! But what if you decided to serve others with your home, the four walls God has given you?

My parents modeled that so wonderfully for me. Sometimes, I would have a gig on Saturday, and then when I went to visit my parents on Sunday, I would find visitors from the gig there, inviting them over because they needed help:

"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” (Proverbs 3:27 NIV)

Honestly, the Bible is full of such verses that show us how easily we can serve God! Because serving is something that is possible for all of us.

Each of us has people around us who need help, who need a sympathetic ear, and who would benefit from an exchange. Why don't you prepare a nice moment in your home with everything that would do this person good and invite him or her?

"...whoever is kind to the needy honors God.." (Proverbs 14:31 NIV)

It would be so simple. As always, all it takes is your decision to act on God’s Word.

You are a miracle!

Humility starts when we serve others, whether we feel like it or not. Let’s be honest, though - sometimes that can be very hard. So how can we embrace humility and serve those in our lives, whether they are easy or hard to serve?
