DAY 9 OF 21

Jesus Is More Than a Man

By Ps Matt

Whenever I stop and think about eternity, I don’t think it will be like the two events described by Mark today. I don’t think of a meal by the seaside or a naval disaster on the water. But there’s a lot about today’s passage that gives us a picture of eternity.

The feeding of the five thousand is a divine miracle. No one naturally has the power to multiply food to feed a crowd. Only God does that. But this event foreshadows an eternal dinner, the wedding banquet in heaven!

King Jesus is the one who puts on the feast (eternal life). His disciples are the ones who deliver it (telling others about the Gospel). And the nations of the world are the ones who receive it and enjoy it! Just like we see in this event.

The response of fear and faith from the disciples when Jesus walks on water is the response we need to embrace though if we’re going to understand the eternity that awaits us.

It’s clear the disciples did not see the feeding as a supernatural event. Their hearts were hardened by the work of that day (v. 51-52). All the disciples needed was an experience of Jesus’ glory to soften their hearts. And Jesus walking on water during a storm reminded them big time.

The Christian Walk is often a back and forward between forgetting and remembering – of our getting caught up in the world and then again reminding ourselves of the King and the place He is preparing for all who believe in Him.

Will you allow today’s passage to impact you as it impacted the disciples?
Where once they get off the boat – they are ready to minister again for the crowds to encounter Jesus?
