All Who Are Weary: God Is My Comfort

DAY 7 OF 8

God’s Comfort is Deep and Familiar

For this is what the Lord says:

“I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream;
you will nurse and be carried on her arm
and dandled on her knees.
As a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” -Isaiah 66:12-13

The Promise: God’s comfort is deep and familiar.

The soothing touch or word of a family member or someone who means a lot carries more comfort than can be expressed. It goes deep, to that familiar place of belonging and being seen that followed you from birth but slowly dissipated the more the world wreaked its influence that spilt into your life. But God looks to you, bends His face close, and breathes His love in your heart. His arms reach out, extending peace, safety, and a soft place for you to belong.

Try This: Hug it Out

Get or give a hug. Find a family member or friend and lean into their embrace. If you need to ask for one, ask for one. There’s something healing and connective for our body and soul when we engage in a comforting hug with someone who brings comfort and safety to us. It’s in us to long for that connection, and it releases a deep comfort in us when we have that need met.
