Day 5: Seeing Through New Eyes
At one of our workshops, there was an absolutely stunning, well-proportioned and just beautiful woman (even according to the world’s standards). Devastating attacks had come against her throughout her life, especially the loss of her mother at a young age and losing a brother to suicide. Most of her life, when she stood in front of a mirror, she would think thoughts like, “You're a fat pig or your legs are so ugly.” Such thoughts perpetually surfaced to accuse, curse and condemn her every time she looked at her reflection. During the workshop, the Lord directed us to lay hands on each participant and pray for them to have Heavenly encounters. The next day, this precious woman returned and shared the following story with us: That night, the Lord woke her up at 4:00am. At first, she fought it, because she was so sleepy and tired, but as the Lord persisted, she remembered the prayer and she excitedly thought, “This is my encounter!” She pushed herself out of bed and picked up her journal on the way to the living room couch. She sat there, pen in hand, ready to record whatever revelation the Lord was about to bring her. Just as she began to wonder how long she might be waiting, it began. Heaviness settled over her and she quietly sank down into the couch, leaning over and resting her head on the couch pillow. Surprisingly, she didn't fall asleep, but instead immediately found herself in a vision! In the vision, she watched as Jesus came walking up to the couch and stood right in front of her. He reached down and painlessly popped out her eyeballs. As if that wasn't unusual enough, He then popped out His eyeballs! He proceeded to place His eyeballs into her eye sockets and said, “There, now you will see yourself as I see you,” and the vision ended! She rose up from the couch and went back to her bedroom and fell fast asleep. The next morning, as she walked by the mirror, she stopped, stared at herself, and with great surprise spoke out loud, “Is that me? I like these legs! I look hot!” Through one encounter with the Lord, He dramatically changed how she perceived her body. For the first time, she was seeing herself as He did, and as other people did. The Lord truly did what He had shown her in the vision. After 40 years, the lie had been broken! “See if there be any hurtful way in me and lead me in the everlasting way”(Psalm 139:24). God cares about how we see ourselves and wants us to walk in freedom!
Ponder & Pray: Lord, please help me to see myself the way You do. Show me ways that I have not been honoring to myself and help me to see Your love in the way You made me.
Activation: Spend some time praying together through the areas in your sexual relationship where you need the Lord to help you grow. (Note: If you struggle with praying out loud with your spouse, keep it simple. Take turns speaking short sentences out loud to God concerning what you want help with. Then declare it out loud.)
