The Way of Love in a World of Hurt: A 5-Day Reading Planનમૂનો
Day 4: He Sees the Pain
If you’ve lived any length of time, you or someone you know has dealt with illness or suffering. Perhaps you have spent years in prayer for relief from pain. Or sat with others as they’ve experienced deep sorrow. It would be nice if Jesus had promised a life free of hurt, sickness, or woundedness, but instead, Scripture tells us it’s a guaranteed part of this fallen world. How is that supposed to comfort us? Because Scripture also tells us that even though we won’t be able to avoid pain and suffering in this life, we have been given the peace of Jesus that persists amid the pain. Psalm 23 tells us that even when we are in the shadow of the valley of death, He is with us and comforts us (v. 4).
In Genesis 16, we read about a woman suffering and alone. After fleeing from her jealous mistress, Abraham’s wife, Sarai, Hagar meets an angel of the Lord who tells her God is with her. And then Hagar gives God one of His most beautiful names: “The God Who Sees Me” (v. 13). Even when we are suffering and feel alone, God sees us. He is with us. And although He may not immediately take away our pain, He redeems it and uses it for our good and His glory.
Consider: Are you or someone you know dealing with pain and suffering right now? How have you felt Jesus’ peace covering you? Spend time thinking about and taking comfort in God’s name as “The God Who Sees Me.”
Reflect:
Reflect on a time when you experienced God's comfort in the midst of pain or suffering. How can the assurance that God sees and is with you bring peace in difficult circumstances?
Prayer:
Gracious Father, thank You for being the God who sees us in our pain and suffering. Comfort us with Your presence and assure us that even in the darkest moments, You are with us. May we find peace knowing that Your love and redemption persist amid our trials? In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
