Journey From Anxiety to Peace

DAY 3 OF 4

Day 3: Do Your Anxious Thoughts Define You?

Anxious thoughts often grow to define our time, minds, and hearts. We may want to hide our anxieties from God. After our circumstances grow too overwhelming, our worries leak from inside our lives to the outside, which affects others.

Martha began to feel her concerns and pressure while preparing for the meal with Jesus. She felt alone and unseen. She then leaked her complaints to Jesus.

How do you feel when your circumstances are overwhelming, and do they affect your relationships?

Writers in the New Testament also addressed how God helps us when we voice our worries to Him.

Peter encourages us in 1 Peter 5:7 to “give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”

Listen to Peter's reassuring words:

A powerful way to give your worries to God begins with making a list of every anxious thought, belief, and expectation you are facing. Once you’ve made a list, fold the paper and write out 1 Peter 5:7 on the other side. Then, destroy the list by ripping it up or burning it in a safe place.

Reflections:

  • What does God offer when your worries affect your relationships?
  • How did this exercise help you practically address anxiety and worry in your life?

Today, may this be a practical way of giving your worries to God and knowing He will receive them. Tomorrow we will look at how to replace our worries with God’s heart and perspective.
