Real Hope: Gratitude

DAY 3 OF 7

It’s In All The Small Things

I recently had one of ‘those’ weeks. I’d hurt my back and was in constant pain. A few things had gone wrong at work and at home, and it all seemed to build in my mind.

Then, Luke and I were doing our radio show and we did a segment, ‘Fankful Friday’, where we asked people to share what they’re ‘fankful’ for. On this particular day, it wasn’t a segment filled with big things, but with all small things, like a particular fruit, a new water bottle, and a cuddle with a pet.

When our heart and mind is weary, there is strength in giving thanks. There’s lots of research into the power of gratitude, with the results showing happier, healthier minds and emotions. This radio segment reminded me that I don’t need things to be going right in life to find things to be thankful for. The size of what we’re grateful for doesn’t matter, but the attitude changes everything.

The verse in Thessalonians above confirms to me that God wants what’s best for us. It was written 2,000 years ago, well before research proved its power. God’s plan for us involves thankfulness for our hearts and minds to be right.

In troubled times, when it feels harder to be thankful, remember there’s strength in gratitude for all the small things.
