Relation Migration
By Clay Elliott
READY:
“But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord…” – Jeremiah 9:24a
SET:
How would you describe God? Maybe as Creator? Warrior? Father? Of course we know all of these to be true, but limiting Him to just one or two of these really short-changes Him. The truth is, the more we know Him the more we realize His depth and breadth. The more we discover about Him the more we understand Him. I call this a “relation migration” in which we study and abide with God, getting to know Him intimately.
As athletes we place ourselves—willingly or unwillingly—under the headship of our coaches. We hope they know what they’re talking about. We hope they know how to lead us. We hope they understand the game and how to train us in its nuances. And sometimes, when we get connected to a really good coach, we might brag, “This coach knows what’s what!”
Jeremiah gives us a challenge here: If you brag at all, you should brag about knowing and understanding God. This knowing and understanding means traveling from the simple to the complex—journeying from the basic to the intricate. And this relation migration can be a sweet lifetime pursuit of God.
Boasting is a selfish proposition. It’s about telling others that we’re what’s what. But wouldn’t it be exciting to be able to brag about God? I challenge you to go on a relation migration with Him so you can brag to others about the amazingness of God…and that He truly knows what’s what!
GO:
1. How would you describe your coach?
2. How would you describe God?
3. How would you begin a relation migration with God if you were to start one?
WORKOUT:
Genesis 1-3
Psalm 23
John 1
OVERTIME:
“Father, I have a lifetime to go on this relation migration with You. Journey with me. Let me experience You more so I can know and understand You better. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
