DAY 6 OF 7

Day 6: Your Own Personal Trainer:
Who is your personal trainer?

John 16:13 (NIV) says, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

The Holy Spirit is our personal trainer to help us get into spiritual shape, stay in fit condition, become more like Christ, and be successful in all that God has planned for us. Our personal trainer is conditioning us to help us develop super strong prayer lives and be the most effective when we pray. Our personal trainer is conditioning us to help us study the word of God and to also bring back to our memory the things He has taught us during our study time. Our personal trainer is conditioning us to help us worship our heavenly Father in spirit and in truth and develop a worship that blesses our heavenly Father and defends us against the attacks of our adversary, the devil.

In Luke 4 and in Matthew 4, we read the account of when Jesus was being tempted by the devil. Notice that the Bible says that the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness, where He fasted for forty days. After the fast, Jesus was tempted by the devil. Notice the devil came to Jesus while Jesus was in a physically weakened condition due to 40 days without food and water. Isn’t that how the devil comes at us? He is always looking for us to become tired or hopes to find us in some kind of weakened condition. But notice the Holy Spirit was working in Jesus. Notice how Jesus responded. He remembered the Word of God, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was able to resist and rebuke the devil. The devil didn’t immediately leave Jesus. The devil continued to tempt Him. Notice the Holy Spirit (our personal trainer) did not leave Jesus but brought to His memory another word from God, and Jesus was able to resist and rebuke again. And then, again, the devil tempted Jesus, but the Holy Spirit kept bringing to Jesus’s memory every word He needed to continue resisting and rebuking until the devil left Jesus and angels came and ministered strength to Jesus and helped Him recover.

The Holy Spirit—our personal trainer—is always with us. He is teaching us how to be successful, and when the pressure is on, He is there reminding us of all that He has taught us and coaching us to victory. If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit, we need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was there energizing and directing Jesus, giving Him what He needed to resist and rebuke the devil. The Holy Spirit—our personal trainer—is with us, energizing and directing us, giving us everything we need to overcome our adversaries and accomplish incredible exploits for God and His kingdom.

Jesus had an incredible teaching ministry while He was on the Earth. The Holy Spirit worked in Him and used Him to teach and train others how to live and do the works of God themselves. Our Father has sent to us the same Spirit who worked in Jesus and empowered Him to perform signs, wonders, and miracles and raised Christ from the dead. Even after Christ was raised from the dead and ascended back to heaven, He is now seated at the right hand of our heavenly Father, praying for us. His teaching and training ministry continues in the Spirit.

Look at these verses about the Holy Spirit:

· John 14:17 (NIV): “[He is] the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

· John 15:26 (NIV): “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.”

In naming the Holy Spirit the Spirit of truth, Jesus acknowledges that the Holy Spirit possesses all truth. His nature is truth. There is no error in Him. When He speaks to us, He conveys only truth. Since we do not know all things and need to learn and grow and develop, the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth.
