Pause: A Month of Prayer in Five Minutes a Day

DAY 7 OF 30

Proclaim

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Phil. 4:6)

Prompt

I am prone to ruminating thoughts. My mind can fixate on a problem, an idea, a strained relationship, an upcoming event, or a conversation I’m dreading, and then I’m toast. This struggle can be really hard for me, even though I’ve walked with God for years and years now.

This fixation situation has been challenged as I’ve meditated on our verse for this quarter. Paul knows a thing or two about being in challenging situations, and he tells us clearly: don’t worry, don’t stress, don’t get pulled, and don’t fixate on anything that can cause anxiety or negativity.

Pray. Talk to God. Tell Him everything. And do it all with a grateful heart. That’s not easy, but it feels good. Turn your fixation onto God and let Him do the rest.

Prod

So how do we do this? We must begin the process of eliminating anything that could trigger a ruminating thought and replacing it with PRAYER and PRAISE. Start right now - crank up the music, get on your knees, and give your thoughts to God!

Pray

Jesus, thank you for being my entire and total fixation today. Help me to see you—and only you—with every part of me. I breathe you in; I breathe you out. Father, as I do this, take the darkness from my mind and replace it with your light. Jesus, you are King! Jesus, you are Lord! Jesus, you are my peace! Amen.

About this Plan

Pause: A Month of Prayer in Five Minutes a Day

Depression. Loneliness. Comparison. Greed. Addiction. People-pleasing. These are tools of the enemy to steal your calling and rob your joy. In this reading plan, drawn from his book, Lance Lang invites you to neutralize those tools by pausing each day, studying scripture, reading encouragement, taking action, and refocusing your attention on Jesus. Press forward into what God has for you. Press pause.
