Pray the Word

DAY 12 OF 21

The Eternality of God's Word

Today's verse is a good reminder of the eternal nature of God’s Word. The words of Jesus will last longer than anything else you see in the world around you. This world will pass away, and a new heaven and a new earth will come (Revelation 21:1), but God’s Word will remain. It will never pass away.

When you hide God’s Word in your heart, you are banking your life on that which will stand forever. That makes Bible reading and meditation extremely important and extremely wise when it comes to how you spend your time. Don’t you want to spend your time on what matters forever rather than on things that are going to pass away next week or next month?

Passing fads and earthly possessions, even the things that we count on most in this world, will one day be gone. But God’s Word will never be gone. His words will never, ever pass away, because they are eternal. So hide them in your heart and study them so that you can know God.

Prayer

God, help us to have a right view of your Word. Help us to see its supremacy over everything else in this world. Help us to love it and cherish it and obey it. And help us to bank everything we do on your Word, to make it central in our lives.

God, we pray that your Word would be proclaimed, sung, and prayed in our churches, that everything we do would revolve around your Word. Please forgive us for our foolishness, giving so much time and energy and thought to things in this world that will pass away, while giving so little time to that which will last forever.

Jesus, we praise you for your words to us. We pray that you would help us to live today like your words are our most important possession, knowing that they will be our possession forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
