Real Hope: Why Jesus Came to Earth

DAY 4 OF 7

Light Equals Life

Deep in the labyrinthine cave system, our guide asks us to extinguish our headlamps. Nothing prepares us for the immediate, dense and claustrophobic nothingness that follows. Breathing and heart rates change, sensory overload overtakes us and some in the group start to see things they couldn’t possibly see. All responses to the absence of light. When Jesus says He is light, He’s speaking with a divine duality, once again repurposing our real-world understanding to reveal profound spiritual implications:

Energy and Life: Light is central to our survival. Solar energy heats the earth’s surface, drives photosynthesis, evaporation, weather and water cycles, all mirroring Jesus as our spiritual energy source.

Illumination: Light reveals not only what is immediately in front of us, but also what is beyond our sight. Telescopes and observatories capture light from distant stars and galaxies – light created before our moment in time and reaching us much later. Jesus as the ‘light’ brings understanding and reveals the mysteries of God’s plan for humanity.

Communication: Light is the centre of communication technologies, from unsophisticated signal fires through to today’s fibre optics and photonic computing. Similarly, Jesus serves as the divine communication channel between humanity and God, conveying God’s message and love to us.

Health and Wellbeing: Light is vital to our health and wellbeing. Exposure to natural light regulates our circadian rhythms and influences our mental and physical health. Jesus, as the spiritual light, offers healing, guidance and renewal.

Today, will you allow Jesus to bring revelation and renewal to your life?
