What Are You Wearing?
Do you ever go to the gym in the morning and forget to bring proper clothes for the day? There are times I’ve been rushing out of the house with my shorts on backwards, my shoes on the wrong feet… in fact, once I came to church wearing two different shoes. Whether going for a run or headed to the office, we need to make sure we are appropriately clothed for each day.
In 1 Peter 5:5, the Apostle Peter paints a powerful picture for us by writing: "be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” You see, to clothe yourself is an intentional act of your will. Each day we have a choice—will we clothe ourselves in pride, or in humility?
Pride is a major enemy—it repels God. On the contrary, humility attracts God. Being clothed in humility invites His grace and favor into our lives. Just a few verses later, in 1 Peter 5:7, we find one of the keys to being clothed in humility is "casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."
Our cares are our anxieties, our stressors—which divide our minds and souls. One of the greatest acts of humility is giving our anxieties and burdens to God, trusting that He is greater than us and can help us in our struggles.
Friend, I encourage you this week to write out your anxieties, cares, or burdens—and then humbly, prayerfully give them to God in exchange for His perfect peace. I promise you won’t regret it!
As you engage with God’s word:
● What is God saying to you?
● What does it mean to you?
● What action step do you need to take?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer. Also, if you’re looking for more faith-building resources like this, I want to personally invite you to sign up for my weekly devotional email today!
